The textiles and patterns of the tribes of Sapa, Vietnam are central to the culture. A member of the Black Hmong tribe taught me how to cross-stitch the intricate designs of their clothing. I magnified a version of her pattern with a cross-stitch style drawn

in ink. The deep blue and purple allude to the indigo dye of their fabrics. Painted small watercolor scenes from my photographs with blues, purples, and ochre for a split complementary scheme hang in front. A rough netting with an ochre-brown wash hangs behind to emulate the rough, country life and rusty soil color.
